Cairns Winter Solstice Celebration and Sustainable Lifestyle Gathering
The Cairns Winter Solstice & Sustainable Lifestyle Gathering will not be held this year - 2012.
The decision has been a very difficult one for us once again and the reasoning behind our cancellation for this year is a lack of funding for the event.
We are still working on clearing our debts for the previous Winter Solstice events and we would rather complete this commitment, than to chase our tails once again....
To all of you who were looking forwards to Cairns Winter Solstice 2012 - Thank you for your sign of commitment to our gathering, and we hope that you all can understand, respect and appreciate our decision to hold off on our Celebration....
We would like to take this opportunity to once again, thank every single person who has spent time and effort supporting and helping to create our gathering every year, our entire team has consisted of unpaid volunteers and your time and efforts have not gone unnoticed.
We THANK YOU all, and are truly grateful and honoured for your assistance and creativity .
We do promise that we will return when the time is right!
In the expanse of the Australian outdoor festival culture, Winter Solstice Lifestyle Gathering holds a special place in the hearts and minds of punters from not only Cairns, but from around the country and indeed the globe as well. The annual event, in its fourth year in 2009, was one of the region’s biggest and most creative festivals, attracting well over a hundred acts, performers, healers and artists over four days and three nights in the rugged beauty of the Atherton Tablelands. The thing about Winter Solstice is that it’s much more than a Far North Queensland event, instead being one of Australia’s premier alternative life style festivals with a strong focus on entertainment for all the ages and a holistic festival experience. Thousands of punters have been known to travel from interstate and overseas just to attend, proving it’s not only one of the region’s top music and arts events, but a global tourism drawcard as well. With a broad range of musical styles – from electronic music to live bands and solo acts – as well as roving performers, fire shows, healing areas, sustainability exhibitions and market stalls, Winter Solstice definitely deserves its spot as the winner of the Best Festival in the timeOUT Awards 2009.
